With respect for tradition and our native land, we create modern wines with a Vipava flavor. The marly terraces of the Vipava Hills are warmed by the sun and cooled by the Vipava bura wind, creating the best conditions for the growth of vines. Here, on the southern slopes of the Vipava Valley, indigenous varieties have always thrived, adapted to special growing conditions. That is why on the Štokelj family estate, which is located among the best wine-growing locations, we swear primarily by local varieties.
Štokelj – Malvazija.
Delicate golden yellow color. The flower is fine, clearly defined by the variety, after ripe juicy yellow fruits such as pear, we also find apples, peaches, grapefruit. Dry, moderate acidity, stronger body, aromatically slightly less pronounced than on the nose. Rich, good.

Štokelj – Planta Bela. The color is a gentle golden yellow. The flower is ripe, luxurious, with aromas of mass incense, hazelnuts, bread, hawthorn, almonds. In the mouth it is dry, compact, tasty, with an oily texture, complex and finely intertwined. An intense character that spreads delicately throughout the mouth and persists. Elegant and fine. A very good thing, perhaps March lacks persistence, which is a bit expected given the vintage, but Štokelj proves year after year that its white planta belongs to the very top of Slovenian white varieties. In excellent form. Our price: 22.00 EUR
Štokelj – Planta Rdeča. The wine is a deep ruby color with purple hues. The bouquet is intense, youthful, but serious. It smells of ripe black and red fruits, smoke, tobacco, blackcurrant, and also of new wood. In the mouth, the wine is dry, medium-bodied, with fairly high acids, which can be attributed to Barbera, it also brings a touch of robustness, but the tannins are ripe, soft, and the texture is pleasantly caressing. Very nicely made, although Barbera is still a bit untamed, but time will tell that it is a very good red variety.
2019–2024
Food pairing: game, lamb, steak. Our price: 22.00 EUR

No matter how you look at it, nothing good comes from nothing, and neither does good wine. For great wine, however, the winemaker must establish a special bond and love for this work. In our vineyards, we grow 65% white and 35% red grapes. We are most proud of Malvasia N°1, which was chosen by the Japanese Ambassador as the protocol wine of the Japanese embassy, and of Barbera, which was chosen in 2014 as the protocol wine of the municipality of Ajdovščina. In addition to white and red wines, we are also known for our top-quality, award-winning rosés from the Merlot variety. The range of white and red still wines is complemented by two sparkling wines, Rose and Malvasia.
San Martin Wines – Malvazija. The wine has a delicate lemon yellow color. The bouquet is quite youthful for a 2016 vintage, reminiscent of pears and apricots, and in the mouth there are still nice notes of smoke from the aging in wood. In the vineyard and cellar, we respect the knowledge of our ancestors, which we upgrade with modern knowledge. Dora Erzelj Winery is a family estate of the Turk family. We have always grown only varieties that are typical of the Vipava Valley (Pinela, Malvasia, Rebula, Barbera). We cultivate 2 hectares of vineyards that grow on the steep slopes of Erzelj, on flysch soils.

White wines rest for half a year in stainless steel tanks, while we carry out the battonage process. The red wine Rdeči Rosel (a variety of Merlot and Barbera) is aged for one year in oak barrels. The wines we produce are fresh, light, and drinkable. Because we use spontaneous fermentation, our wines express our microclimate and terroir of our regions, which we find very important in wine.

Multi-generational grape cultivation and production of top-quality wines using the most modern machinery and equipment and expert knowledge, taking into account all guidelines for the greatest possible protection of nature. The share of white wines produced is 60%, and red wines are 40%. White wines are produced using an “inert process”, with as little negative impact of oxidation on the must and the new wine itself as possible. All red wines are matured for a certain period of time in oak barrels and aged for several years before being released to the market. The main purpose is to produce wines with a primary, grape aroma, which is the most demanding process in wine production. Most of the wines are exported.

Since 1935 when the Povh family planted their first vines on hills above Vipava valley, our long tradition of wine making began. It’s modern form sprung to life in 1985 when our father Stanko took over the family vineyards and began paving the way towards brand recognition and highest quality wine of geographic origin.
Povh – Rose Prestige Penina. Exclusively hand-picked in September. A short maceration is performed on the grapes, where the wine acquires a characteristic pink colour. This is followed by fermentation according to the technology of white wine varieties at a temperature of 15–17 ° C.  To maintain freshness and fruitiness, ripening takes place in stainless steel containers.
Secondary fermentation takes place according to the Charmat process in high-pressure vessels. The potential for maturation of sparkling wine is 3 years.
